The Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute also known as BMCRI was founded in 1955 by Mysore Education Society. The college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences since 1996. The college offers UG, PG, Diploma and Certificate courses in various field of Medical Science The college was granted autonomous status by the Government of Karnataka in 2006 It is one of the leading institutions in India providing quality medical education and health care services The four major hospitals attached to this institution which caters to half of the population of Bangalore City and surrounding areas are Victoria Hospital, Vani Vilas Women and Children’s Hospital, Minto Ophthalmic Hospital, Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital The Institute is also involved in community health services at the Urban Family Welfare center, Siddiah Road and Primary health centers at Sondekoppa, K G Halli, Hesarghatta and Pavagada BMCRI has been granted autonomous status in January, 2007
